Mannerspielplatz, the Man's Playground.

Think of it as a testosterone-soaked sandbox: a German amusement park where, instead of standing in line to ride on roller coasters, you get to play with big, loud machines. For 219 euros (about $280), patrons can spend the day operating 29-ton Liebherr backhoes and 32-ton Komatsu front-end loaders, off-roading through the woods in a Mercedes-built Unimog, peeling out in a Suzuki SUV, and slinging some mud on quad bikes.

Panzerkutcher, another place where you can drive German tanks. Yes, you heard me.

This is one woman who would LOVE to operate a backhoe for a day. :)

You may not want to sign up for a full day. The excitement the time I got to do it wore off in about 30 minutes. If I were using one without actual work to do I think I would quickly move into a mode of seeing if I could tip it over.

Thus making it a Tip-truck.

There are far more exciting, and potentially dangerous parks in Europe than Mannerspielplatz.

Now, if they have a Nautic Jet (a wicked fun "jumping boat" ride that you operate yourself), then it's a fun park.

BTW, they've got these in quite a few places in Europe, along with all sorts of other fun that would never work in the U.S.

Seems like a real opportunity here. The county government could actually CHARGE people to build roads! Use the profits for arts programs. Woo hoo!

yeah... Nautic Jet is even more fun when you're really drunk, and fall half asleep, and wake up at the moment the boat drops toward the pool.
