Accident at Stunt Show

I occasionally drive the Backlot Tour shuttle at the Disney-MGM Studios. We are located right next to the new Lights! Motors! Action! Extreme Stunt Show, which is in previews right now and opens in May.

During the 5:45 showing today, I was driving the route which goes right by the theater, and I had to stop because an ambulance and other emergency vehicles were entering the stadium. From what I have heard, one of the stunt drivers flipped over his car, it was wrecked pretty badly, and he was unable to get out. I have heard conflicting reports on his condition, so I can't comment, other than to say that lot of guests I spoke to later saw the incident and seemed very concerned. (The stadium had a full audience, including Bob Iger. This happened very early in the show, and the audience had to leave.)

It was hard giving the remaining tours as I had to spiel while passing by fire trucks and ambulances and such, and I couldn't say anything about them. (A tent and a bunch of prop trucks were immediately placed around the accident vehicle, and there were many managers and crew.)
I just hope the guy is okay.

That's very sad news. I hope everyone will be ok!

Although I hope the stuntperson recovers, I can't help but giggle (in a very sad way, of course) at the things that seems to happen to you when you are "Touring".

I really hope the driver is OK. I have to admit, I expected to hear about an accident at LMA sooner or later - just not during the previews. While I enjoy the Indy stunt show quite a bit, the idea of a car show at Disney-MGM seems a little out of place (maybe because it wasn't conceived as a Florida attraction, but is an import from Paris). Maybe I just miss Residential Street.
Thanks for the report, Flippyshark. Sounds like a rough afternoon.

Wow that sucks.

On a random note, I can't believe they brought that show to the US. It is positively awful. We saw it in Paris and I am a complete car nut. Should have been right up my alley. Never been so freakin bored.

So maybe this year WDW will have all of Disneyland's accidents since it's getting all the new attractions (or rehashed imports from other parks)?

hee hee.... "Extreme" stunt show?

Not Afraid 03-31-2005 01:26 PM

No no no. It's "Xtreme"! Don't you know how to spell!

Matterhorn Fan 03-31-2005 01:29 PM

Yes, I do. I was quoting Flippyshark.

flippyshark 03-31-2005 09:07 PM

I think it is spelled "Extreme" at the attraction, but I am surprised they didn't go with the siller spelling.

Anyway, the GOOD news - the man in the car is fine. He was taken to the hospital and checked out but then immediately released. (The car didn;t make out so good, I guess.)

So, i'm glad that had a happy ending, and I hope Mr. Iger enjoyed the show.
