The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill

We just watched this documentary tonight. Excellent! Has anyone else seen it?

Me! It's a great story!

And one of the flocks of parrots in SF live in Lafayette Park a block from me, they fly around every morning and I ca usually hear them squaking and chatering.

I haven't seen it, but I read the book.

Also, I've seen the parrots themselves many times. You can recognize them from the difference of there calls (living for a while with parents trying bird breeding they stood out the first time I heard) but it is fun watching the tourists never realize they're there.

Here's one of my pictures of them:

We have a flock that hangs out in Garden Grove on occasion. They use to love to visit my Loquat tree when it had fruit. I hate how loud they are, worse than crows. But fun to watch. I've seen them in the area of Brookhurst and Chapman (where I live) and Garden Grove Blvd. & Harbor the most.

I had the Loquat tree removed (for other reasons) so they don't hang around my house any more, but I see them fly over and hang in the tall trees accross the street.

I don't know if this is the signal hill flock or not, it's not so far as to be impossible.

There are wild parrots that migrate around LA. When I worked near downtown we'd have them around for a while and then they would move on to another neighborhood. One day I noticed a tree that was especially green and leafy for the trees in the area. Then I realized it wasn't leaves, it was bright green parrots.

The apartment building next to our parking lot was USC student housing. So it was amusing when the parrots were in residence because no one could sleep past dawn with all that racket.

We have parrots all over Long Beach - primarily in Belmont Shore and Heights, but I've seen them in Cal Heights as well. Loud little buzzards!

ditto for down here in SD. mostly we see pairs fly by and yeah. you hear them long before you ever see them. usually theyre noisy enough to where you expect a dozen or more to fly by. then, the pair go by and its amazing the ruckus they make.

love em.

I believe the OC flock is a different flock. Man, those things are loud. They hang around Orange a lot.

The movie is on my "eventually" list due to our local birds.
