Backup Drive
I need to get a backup drive. Any suggestions? My needs are pretty minimal, mostly photos.

I bought my back up drive from buy.com - very happy with their service and they are just off the 73.
Here is the link to their externals. I'm fond of the 2.5 inch, as they are easier to carry around. I have the 120 gig version of this (and paid the same price a few years ago). The 160 gig is $3 cheaper. Whatever you decide to go with, make sure you don't need an external power source (most are powered off the USB cable these days). |
Well, the Freeagent Go I recently got is wonderful. Portable, a variety of capacity sizes to choose from.

Thanks - I've got everything backed up on CD as well but a drive is just easier to deal with.

Our local electronic store (Dick Smith) just advertised a 1 Terabyte External Hard Disc for $170. I'm tempted...

If the drive really is just for backups, you might want to consider an online backup solution like idrive.com
An off site backup is great VS fire, theft and locust plagues. |

I haven't experienced the white label of death, what is that so I know to avoid it?
Shopping at Fry's is really one of those experiences where you need to know exactly what to get, don't expect any help finding it, don't expect them to honor the warranty (so don't purchase one), don't ask any employees for help because they don't want to help you (and will often point you to the wrong item) and expect a 50% chance you can't return it for a reason that they don't tell you upon purchase (which applies even if the employee pointed you to the wrong item). The deal above is online-only though. I would still expect problems. |
