Disney books? No thanks.

Headliner has been invited to a Bar Mitzvah. The invitation requests that she bring "gently used kids books" to be sent to school kids in Israel who are learning english. A note on the invite adds "No Disney Books".

I know the rumors of Walt's history but still, this just seems petty. What other companies are they boycotting because sometime in the last 50 years a company exec might have had unfavorable views?

Are you sure that is the reason as opposed to such charities getting to many of the cheap mass and poorly-produced Disney books that are out there?

Kind of like how when I was a kid the local Goodwill wouldn't take Robert Ludlum books. Not because they had anything against Robert Ludlum, they just knew they couldn't offload them in the volume they received them.

But yeah, if that is the reason then it is stupid.

Or it could simply be that they (or the people they tend to distribute to) object to the particular themes in Disney books, rather than anything Walt might or might not have done.

What I do know is that the kid in question is the same one that implied Headliner was antisemetic when she wore the mousekteer outfit.

Hmm... does Headliner really need to attend the Bat Mitzvah of such a girl?

Showing some restraint nowadays? What's up with that? :D :p

Maybe the Children's Book version of "The Producers" would be nicely appropriate instead of a Disney Book.

I like Lashbear's suggestion, except in pop-up book form.

I don't think you need to make a big deal out of it by not going or bringing something to annoy them. If the kid brings it up, I'd go ahead and defend Walt (as I'm sure Headliner would), but I'd just attend the party and bring another used book and let it go.
