Japanese Bug Fights

Japanese Bug Fighting: Sport or cruelty to animals...er... bugs?

Iam both repulsed and fascinated.

Chernabog 05-16-2009 08:01 PM

OK I am fascinated.

I can't think of a better way to describe it than your words.

Ick. Cool!

Well, considering the same site has links to a "serious" article about the common problem of "centipedes in your vagina", and the best way of removing them (involving tampons, soy sauce, cockroaches and pocky), I don't think I'll take that particular site too seriously.

I once knew a fellow named Pocky. We had a nickname for him too, which was also Pocky.

Fighting bugs is the same as fighting any creature. Sad.

Yes, I'll poison bugs that are detrimental to my lifestyle, but to make them hurt each other for my pleasure, that's just wrong.

I find it fascinating from a scientific perspective, seeing how the various insects defend themselves.

On the other hand, I was surprised to find myself feeling bothered and disgusted by the suffering. I don't even like bugs. (My son has a pet Madagascar cockroach that disgusts me.) Yet, I can't stop watching. My biological fascination with biology keeps me going back for more.

Note: OpenDNS classifies encyclopediadramatica.com as "Hate/Discrimination" and japanesebugfights.com as "tasteless."

which explains why its blocked here at work.

Well, this is definitely one video I won't be watching.

My skin is crawling just thinking about it. But, I'd have to agree that no living thing should cruelly suffer just for entertainment.

I think we should have competitive tree fighting. Plant two trees really close together and see how they battle it out over the decades.
