My Swanky Weekend.....

I've been bitching and complaining about this little old preschool auction for many moons now....and it's OVER. I was the chairperson in charge of procuring all the items for the auction and we pulled in about $60K in merchandise and services, hoping to net about $30K.

We did it! It was awesome....we had a blast at the auction. I had to help set up on Friday, but with the kids gone, Kelly and I were able to head out and do some thing together, too.

On Friday, I missed out on buying Sin City tix during the day and the theater we tried was sold out, so we saw Bride & Prejudice (again for me) and in a theater with reclining rocking seats...so I had a blast.

Then we headed out to Doug Fir on the Eastside for late night drinks and food with friends.....we waited in the lounge for about 45 for a table....where we came across my ex-boyfriend who recently got his damn recording contract and has subsequently become kind of a jerkoff. But other than that......oh my gosh, we had the best time. The place is a freak show. I love it!

It's so Twin Peaksy! We hung out in the lounge and outside around the Jupiter Hotel which is on the same property. I know I've posted about Doug Fir before, but now that it's really caught on, the place is always packed. It was Kelly's first time, and he looooved it. We ate Fir Burgers, while petting beaver pelts at the bar.....lots of fur and beaver talk that night....juvenile stuff. :D Anyway, I love the place so much! www.dougfirlounge.com

We had our auction at Montgomery Park in NW Portland. The site is awesome....I'd only been there once or twice, so I was really impressed. The beer and wine were included with our tickets and we'd bought a table of ten, and invited my sister, her fiance, Kelly's brother and his new wife and two other couples who are close friends. We drank, bid, and spent much cash....we had a blast. My sister and her fiance ended up with this giant walnut wine cabinet with 30 bottles of premium wine....then at the end of the night, they sold off all the wine and champagne for $5/bottle.....all $30+ bottles of wine! We scored! I ended up with some laser facials (2), a haircute and color and some jewelry. We all spent about $400 a couple....I was shocked that any of us spent that much....we weren't intending to.

After we lugged home the wine cabinet, we freshened up and headed to www.fezballroom.com

as my favorite DJ was working this weekend. She spins mostly Indian (Bangra) hiphop and Bollywood soundtrack re-mixes. We had a drunken orgy of dancing for a few hours, then headed back over to Doug Fir.

This morning, Kelly and I headed out for breakfast at The Gypsy Lounge. It used to be my "jumpin off" spot back in my bar hopping days. They do this amazing (and cheap) breakfast on the weekends.....oh my gosh. So freaking good. A little hair of the dog, too. Mmmm.....bloody mary's...
Here are some pics from someone's blog about the Gypsy:

Claire glad to hear you had such a good weekend and that the auction is finally OVER! :) Even though you didn't get a chance to see Sin City sounds like it was a great weekend overall~

Ok...I'm jealous! My weekend was spent with children...watching movies and wishing I had a donut shaped pillow!

Glad your auction is over! Yippee!!!

Yay! No more auction! (Until the next event ;) )

We spent most of the weekend at home doing not much of anything - which was actually very nice.

Today, we went shopping at the OVERWHELMING Amoeba Records then had a bite and saw "Sin City" at the Cinerama Dome - in the actual dome theater. It was a great day with great friends and a suprise Hobo Homo showing up (ISM). Sadly, GD left early (with CP) with a bad toothache. I hope the drugs are working well - and fast.

It was fun to see the LiningUp crew out in full force when we dropped ISM off. I'm glad there are other geeks out there. ;)

Yes, great geek to geek moment in Amoeba - and good try on the Amoeba to Amoeba virtual meet. Swank all around - must be Springtime.

Asthma + bronchitis = absence of swank.

Oooh, we did see Sin City....this morning after breakfast. We were done with breakfast at eleven and were planning to kill an hour.....but uh, since we didn't realize it was daylight savings until I got a call on my cell, turns out it was noon and time to see the movie. :D Hour killed.

:snap: Looooooved Sin City. Awesome weekend and incredible movie!!!

Oh, Claire. Your weekend sounds deliciously sinfully swanky!!

My weekend, am I supposed to say? Well.....it was our 22nd anniversary Saturday! Wahoo! So, we'd been tossing around ideas of what to do. Hubster wanted the sea, I wanted Disneyland {again}. But, it was blacked out for us so we put that off for another day. Wah. So my second choice was Julian and the mountains.

So, forward through our debates on why do what and voila! the choice was made for us. The house needed to be tented and guess what days they chose? Well, it worked for us to use those dates as the Hubster had already taken those days off.

The older kids went their merry ways, had to load up one with food and $$ but he was fine.

So, we chose the mountains because the cabins accept dogs. We loaded up all we needed. The Boy came with us, much to his chagrin. He doesn't get why he has to go places with us when his older siblings don't have to. I told him that life sucks being the youngest because you grow up too fast so chill, little man. So, we brought him a system, games, and his scooter. It gets dark early up in the mountains for some reason we get tired earlier. Anyone else experience this? We do wake up way earlier, too.

Anywho. So, we get up to the cabin, unload. Hit up the store {always spending $$} and then I take the boy for a walk/scooter ride. He enjoyed the hill in the lot but it made me nervous. He was getting a bit squirrelly...
But, I dismissed it as he is a boy, and, it did look fun, I had to admit. If I were a kid, I'd be doing it too.

So...Hubster bbq's while I bake a cake {at a higher altitude, no less, with no measuring cups! I actually had to FIGURE IT OUT with just a tbs. and tsp. the measurements!} The boy is playing with the dog and running around the cabin.

I have to say, it was clear and the sky was beautiful. The colors were simply gorgeous.

Okay, to I see the boy is getting restless. I suggest to the Hubster to take the Boy for a walk. One of us has to stay with the dog as he is quite protective over us and the area was populated with kids roaming around as well as other pets. So, I say I'll clean up while he goes and he {Hubster} says he will go wash up from cooking. The Boy grabs his scooter, helmet, and heads outside.

Now. Did I mention this cabin's front faced the road and set on a porch about 3-4 feet high? Hmm. I don't think so. And that it doesn't have a rail? No problem, we've stayed there before. So. Everything is cool. Until the Hubster goes outside. The Boy says 'Look Dad!' and flies off the freakin' porch on his scooter, crashing big time. He lays there. He has hurt his leg. No blood or bruising. Just can't put any weight on it.

Remember how I said the dog is very protective? Well, when the Hubster was bringing the Boy in {carrying him, hands all over him} the dog wanted to get him! It was almost funny but the dog wasn't kidding. I had to take him into the next room. When I would tend to the Boy, the dog {should I be putting 'Dog'?} would come a few feet from me and just watch me. Don't mess with him.

Anywho.....

So. We come home, open up the house {and I know they say it was clear but it made me blech!} and wait for the appointment for the Boy at the doctor. They said the injury, if there is one, this doctor couldn't really tell, was right at the growth plate. So, they put a boot on him and sent him home wth an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon in a couple of days.

Back home to unpack all of the crap we had to pack earlier.

Claire~ well, we are working on more 'kid free' days. I have picked up concert tickets for us out of town and even in town {if you can believe SD is actually having some cool shows in some cool places!! :snap: }. I love to hear your stories because they are so much fun!! Seems we've been so busy with work and kids we haven't seen past that and WA-freakin'-HOO we are enjoying ourselves now!! You have been a great motivation to me. I've seen you do a great job juggling your life and nothing seems to suffer. I haven't gotten to the point where nothing is suffering but I will. ;)

Ugh, I forgot to mention, we have no gas so no cooking or hot water!! We have until 5 o'clock to see the gas person come out and fix us up.

And no, I don't need anyones own personal gas until then, thanks.

Aw, thanks for the offer, Prudence. ;)

But, it seems we have quite enough of that to go around here.

{I live with a bunch of males who find that activity quite humorous. :rolleyes: But I didn't say that, no sir, can't pin that on me... :) }
