My Ping Time Is SH1TE !! WHY?!?!?!?!

I'm getting awful ping time and timeouts trying to surf here in Forster. Activ8me has dreadful service here, we're on SATELLITE and even with 230k download speed it takes HOURS to surf, and my iPhone won't even connect to itunes store or even browse.

I can occasionally get a tweet out but it is 1 in a million. I've had it.

(For the geeks among you, it matters not if the laptop is connected via LAN cable or wireless via router, it's still just as bad either way.)

Here's the latest speed check:
Firstly, it won't even CONNECT to http://www.zdnet.com.au/broadband/speedtest.htm - too slow, times out.

Oz broadband test:

It's because you are upside down (being in the Southern Hemisphere). Electrons are designed to flow faster UP hill, so that is why you are getting the slow download speeds.

Would it help if he stood on his head?

Kevy Baby 05-29-2009 09:29 AM

No: that would just confuse the electrons and they would have to stop to ask for directions.

:( Poor bear. Nothing stresses me out more than slow connectivity.

lashbear 05-30-2009 05:26 PM

Thank you CP - for example, it's just taken 3 minutes to load this page. :(

Most of the speed tests tell you not to use them if you're on Satellite.

Have you checked out the Tweaks/Tools section at DSL Reports? It's one of my favorite sites, with very helpful forums.

I assume this is a new problem and not related to a switch in ISP, a new router, a new PC, etc....?

What's changed since you last had decent signal? Did the aboriginals in the next village put in a casino with satellite internet?

Are sites down under as slow as sites in the developed world?

Have you tired running a traceroute to various websites to see where the hold up is?

Kevy Baby 05-31-2009 09:45 AM

Maybe try shaking your mouse

JWBear 05-31-2009 11:23 AM

Nah... He just needs to check to see if the electrical cord is plugged in...
