The Michelle Obama Look
Every First Lady has her look. Some influence consumers down the line (Jackie K, even Nancy R) and others (Laura B., Mamie E.) don't. But when a fashion point of view filters down to the sewing pattern companies, you know it's here to stay for awhile. Here's a new pattern for Fall:
![]() This is Mrs. Obama all the way. She looks great in it. If she were to ask me, she should step away from the J.Crew every now and then. That is a very small complaint. Any opinion on the Michelle Obama look? Any new tight little 3/4-length sleeved sweaters in your wardrobe, hmmm? |
No offense meant to the first lady, and she's a good deal better than many recent ones, but her style sense plainly sucks.
|
I think she usually looks great. She errs when she tries to wear things that are flouncy- the tailored silhouette works best with her body type. She also knows that if she starts spending too much on clothes she'll catch shyt from the public- remember the $500 tennis shoes? She could never get away with wearing the high end clothes that Jackie Kennedy, Nancy Reagan and Barbara Bush wore. I think her predecessor, Laura Bush, also struck a nice balance. It's a situation where your damned by some if you dress up too much, and by others if you don't.

I love the look and know that I'd look pretty hot in that shape. My mom used to wear Jackie Kennedy/Audrey Hepburn shapes and this is pretty similar stuff.
|
Really? I don't see it that way. Oh, I see the influence, but Michelle's stuff seems more shapeless, like potato sacks. There's a subtle line, and I think she crosses it.

I generally like her clothes, I think she's got a pretty solid sense of style.

I think her sense of style fits her position perfectly. It doesn't personally float my boat, but I have a VERY different lifestyle.
