Disney to purchase Marvel

Will Spiderman be showing up at Disneyland?

Quote:

The Walt Disney Co. said Monday it is acquiring Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock, bringing characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man into the family of Mickey Mouse and WALL-E.

Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters. Many of them, including favorites such as the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, were co-created by the comic book legend Stan Lee.

Wow. This just doesn't feel right. It's okay but I'd prefer the two universes to not be aligned with each other. It feels weird.

Interesting. I'm sure Marvel's deal with Universal in FL will continue (Spiderman the Ride etc) and the idea of Disney getting some money from a huge competitor seems complicated.

I think we have some fantastic marketing and attraction modification opportunities.

Spiderman could be seen in the Haunted Mansion adding spiderwebs.

We could have Soarin' over California with Ironman as the guide.

The Fantastic 4 could team up with the Incredibles for a Pixar sequel.

X-men could help Mickey defeat the new dragon in Fantasmic.

The possibilities are endless.

...then Disney could build "Spiderman: The Other Ride".

Craptastic! If they build something, it should be a stand-alone park.

I think it's exciting. Looking forward to the first Marvel/Pixar flick.

Why does it feel like they're doing this just to kill the Marvel aspect of Islands of Adventure?

Seems no more complicated than the deal they have for Indiana Jones or Star Tours. If anyone knows how to handle licensing deals it's Disney.

And remove a chance to make $ off of a competitor?
