Happy Birthday, H.G. Wells

Perplexed by today's obvious homage on Google:

A quick scroll-over revealed it's H.G.'s birthday today (and not the anniversary of the War of the World's radio broadcast, which is Oct. 30).

It really puts me in the mood to watch Time After Time, but I don't have it. I think Isaac and I are going to watch War of the Worlds, inspired by today's Google illustration. :D

I've got Time After Time - and you can now watch it instantly on Netflix.

H.G. Wells meets Orson Welles

Ultimately, it must be asked -- what was H.G. Wells greatest achievement -- writing the novel The Time Machine or killing Jack the Ripper with a time machine?

I think the answer is obvious.

H.G. Wells vote is for killing Jack the Ripper with a time machine.

Happy Birthday Mr Wells.

Jules Verne was better.

:p

Perhaps, but the better movies were made of and about Mr. Wells.

Maybe someone should conflate a cool love story about Jules Verne!

Mssr.'s Welles and Verne used to meet every few minutes at the Time Keeper attraction here at the Magic Kingdom, and at the Visionariums in Paris and Tokyo. Wells was played by Jeremy Irons. I miss the film portions of that attraction, but I do not miss the robot character voiced by Robin Williams.

Oh, and Time After Time is terrific. Back in the day, it made me want to find a woman exactly like the character played by Mary Steenburgen. *sigh*

Yeah, I wish I owned that movie ... 'cause Isaac's seen both versions of WotW, and we're only watching films he hasn't seen these days. Last nite's selection turned out to have zero to do with H.G. Wells. Oh wells.
