Are Macs more vulnerable to power fluctuations?

Relax Macolytes, this isn't an Apple-hater thread, I'm just curious about something.

We had some power outages on campus last night/this morning. We've had about a dozen Mac users call to say their Macs won't power up but no calls from PC users. We're a predominantly PC campus, so this surprises me. Has anyone ever heard anything about Macs being more vulnerable to power surges?

Two Macs and a PC in my house and they're all equally affected-or-not-affected by power stuff. I think it's more a function of the power brick and whatever power strip or surge protector they're plugged into.

Just FYI, I've had three more callers with the same problem since I posted the original message--all Macs.

very odd

can't.....resist......

Because Mac users can't figure out how to solve a hardware problem on their own?

Now now, I promised this wasn't going to be an Apple-hater thread!

Even though I am a Mac guy, I will admit that this remarks fits me like a glove.

I don't hate Apples.

But it is difficult to resist the urge to lash out at smug unthinking Apple-love. Even when such isn't yet in evidence.

Preemptive war, you know. It is presidentially endorsed.

Hey, mine is only smug unthinking Apple like.

I'm equally fond of my Linux-based netbook.

Just curious, SM - were you able to solve the Mac problems? What was the solution?

SzczerbiakManiac 10-14-2009 07:12 PM

I'm not sure, that was field work and I just do phone support. I'll ask tomorrow. (I'm home now.)
