Yeah, there's always a handful of people around that aren't playing. There's even the chance that the staff might want an extra pair of hands or eyes.
Of course, us competitors won't be particularly social once the event begins, but the milling about beforehand and the congratulator/conciliatory dinners afterwards are always fun. And I'm sure it's amusing to watch as several hundred people scurry about the park doing some very bizarre things.
