Eh, I didn't stop him because the mice are everywhere

We live on the edge of a canyon, mice outside is nothing. We have gophers, squirrels, owls, giant black birds, snakes, scorpions, packs of dogs and coyotes.
My friend, across the long court from us {further from the canyon} and her friend {another 1/4 of a mile away from the canyon} both have families of squirrels living in their yards.
The thing is to keep them out of the houses.
Snowflake, I agree with the cat. Since we got our kitty {she was tiny at first and we still had to deal with the issue} we have no mice inside the house. She wants desperately to go outside and catch the lizards that taunt her from the front door but we don't let her.
