Needless to say, the food, particularly the guacamole, was nearly unrecognisable. I was initially upset, but then realized that I had an unrealistic expectation of getting authentic Mexican food in the Netherlands.
Since then I've tried the guacamole in Spain, France, Ireland and here in the States in New Hampshire, Georgia, North Carolina and I can't even remember where else...and OF COURSE it does not taste like that lovely green mushy stuff from the Southwest that I know and love. I've stopped expecting it to...like I've stopped ordering it! Now I enjoy exploring the local cuisine of whichever town I'm in. No more "Amsterdam guacamole" sadness!
Oh and pizza? It's a matter of taste of course, but I prefer Chicago-style. Hot dogs too. I was careful to not mention that in New York! Man, we had some great pub food though!

I miss the pallid tasteless tomatoes I grew up on in New York in the '60s and '70s.
