Please be advised that the Bethesda Hospitals' Emergency Preparedness Partnership (NIH Clinical Center, National Naval Medical Center and Suburban Hospital) will host its largest ever medical exercise in Bethesda on Thursday, December 7, between 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
There is a possibility of increased emergency activity and
transportations during this period. Please understand this is a DRILL.
Ground transportation may be impacted as response personnel travel to
various sites.
The drill includes more than 8,000 regional participants from National Naval Medical Center, National Institutes of Health, Suburban Hospital, Joint Forces Headquarters, West Virginia & DC National Guard units, Air Force District Washington and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services.
The drill is to include:
* Simulated Fuel Farm explosion and HAZMAT storage facility fire with
real smoke
* 78 casualties wearing realistic-looking moulage makeup
* Real-time response efforts of more than 40 emergency response units
in personal protective equipment
* Triage of victims with on-scene medical intervention and transport
* Medical evacuation of casualties via Blackhawk HH60 and UH1
helicopters to Andrews Air Force Base.
* State-of-the-art "turn key" portable medical surge shelters - first
of their kind in the area
* Fixed and portable decontamination shelters
* Static displays, including military helicopters (1 UH1 and 1 OH58),
configured for medical evacuations, and Joint Forces Headquarters Incident Command Bus.
