It is true, some topics are just ignorable. My sister and I have watched together, either in person, over the phone, or via internet, forever.
For a time we lived together and we would get bottles ready for the babies and sit and rock them to sleep during the show. I know my kids must have recognized the song from in-utero. That and the theme from Dallas.
But, over the many many years we do recognize storylines being recycled.
