Yes, they were fine screenplays, but I don't think they were great screenplays. Odds are that if anybody other than Helen Mirren played that part, the movie would only be half so good.
Same with LMS, though maybe not so much.
But then I didn't really like The Queen, so my opinion is flawed anyway.
