Off the top of my head, I'd recommend:
- the Ric Burns PBS documentary on NY is great, for one
- almost any Scorsese flick (Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, After Hours etc)
- Breakfast at Tiffany's
- Rosemary's Baby
- The Hot Rock
