Yes, I know she'd adjust if it were absolutely necessary (I've introduced many cats to each other over the years and immediately reconciliation is the exception not the rule). That said, Pixel is very solitary and I don't know that a friendship would have been in the future.
It would just have been a long night of unnecessarily emotional trauma for her if it could be avoided. But if we'd dropped this guy off at the pound and it looked like he was going to end up euthanized we would have claimed him and done the work necessary to reconcile them.
But I don't want a second cat; though I would have taken it in becaues as soon as I picked it up and brought it in the house for some food I accepted certain responsibilities. So it is best that this neighbor of ours is willing to take responsibility for it and keep it if no one speaks for it.
