If you don't mind not living in/around a major metropolis, no it won't suck.
My parents lived there for about five years and while there ain't much going on there is plenty nearby if you're of the type to move about. If you want everythign within 20 miles of home, though, you may be very bored.
Yes, housing is much cheaper. Lani and I would cry every time we visited my parents and got a look at the real estate prices.
