I wouldn't call it "trite" because I hadn't heard the line before. As for stupid - it seems fresh, funny, and pointed to me.
Here's my interpretation of the rest of your post...
1. Something about "forest for the trees" that I find as unintelligible as your original post
2. You don't like Boston these days. I've never been there so I have no opinion on the town itself. I think it's lame how they reacted though, so so far we're in a bit of agreeance
3. A joke about ATHF being suspicious
4. Advertising attracts sleazeballs. I know a few lawyers now so I've stopped judging people by profession
5. Pranks can get out of hand. Can't argue with that
6. You don't have sympathy for the perps. I wouldn't use the word sympathy for how I feel, because I saw the interview with them afterwards, where they cracked my sht up. You don't feel sympathy for someone who didn't back down because the world is filled with fear
7. Take it seriously until proven otherwise. Ok, finally, we come to the conversation at hand...to which my response is.....dude, really? If I called the cops and told them there was something on a building depicting an LED figure flipping me off, they should bring out the f'n bomb squad? Really?
8. Nanny state - I agree with that
You do a great job embedding your opinions in your posts. It's a time-consuming pain to extract the meaning, so let's call this a rare exercise. I have only so much time to read the board and this response took my entire 15 min morning glance, so excuse me if I can't continue responding here.
