The cost of the Toshiba HDXA1 HD-DVD player is now under $500 and by all accounts it is as good or better at up-converting DVD's as the Oppo plus it plays true HD moves, I would be hesitant to go with a standard DVD player at this point. Espically since Netflix will send you HD moves for the same price as normal DVD's.

The Oppo uses the Faroudja engine, which is about the best out there. The Toshiba XA1 only upconverts to 1080i (you need to step up to the pricier XA2 to get 1080p and it still doesn't utilize the Faroudja engine)
