This sounds like a plan born from greed. Even $1 a song is too high in my opinion but it seems to be a price point that is working. The success of online sales has the industry questioning how they can make just a little more profit though.
At $1 a song the artist probably sees 10 cents? 20 cents? per song sold. The artists label and online retailers take the rest. Here is my open offer to any and all recording artist:
I will double whatever the record company pays you per song sold if you deal directly with me, the consumer. No middleman. I download your music and pay
you for it. I'm offering to double your pay.
