Um, the boats in the Nile River were definitely rideable, and I rode them many times. Though the reception area is prettier now, the removal of the Nile River was the death knell for the Luxor. The place went from coolesville to trash town within a year of that.

I'm not saying it was the proximate cause ... but it was symptomatic.

After the Luxor went bad, I stayed at Treasure Island for a few years. That place used to be great. Used to be. It's bad enough they removed the best sign in Las Vegas and replaced the Pirate show with that horribe Sirens thing ... but on my recent trip we noticed they've now desecrated the beautiful Caribbean town and waterfront along the strip. T.I. (as they like to call it now) went downhill faster than a Splash Mountain log.

Nowadays, I like the Mandalay Bay. It's classy without being pretentious. The pool area is great. The hotel is beautiful and the casino is one of the least annoying in town.

The Hotel at Mandalay Bay, on the other hand, seems a tad pretentious and I'm not sure I like the black & chrome decor. Also, since I believe it's all suites, I'm sure it's even more expensive than the regular Mandalay Bay, which is pricey enough. (well at least zapppop and I haggled them down to their regular room rates of a couple years ago, from the outrageous rate they first quoted when we showed up Saturday night without a reservation.)
