Spend that time deciding what you want from your change (eg: what you want different in your life). Write down your goals using positive language (eg: "I want to ___" instead of "I want to not ____"). Writing goals down commits you to them mentally.
I haven't done that a lot in my life, but the goals I've written down usually came to pass: I went on foreign exchange to England, I've worked for Disneyland, I graduated USC. The hardest part about making your life the way you want it is when you don't know what you want. You can't aim at a vague idea, so pick something specific, and even if you miss the mark a bit, you'll be a lot closer than if you never had a mark at all.
