At best, they'll get a little money. At worst, it's a fraudulent attempt and could cost more in the long run. Example: If there's a promotion or a need to cut jobs, who do you think they'll look toward first, given that everything else is more-or-less equal? Promotion - the guy that didn't try to squeeze (relatively speaking) a few bucks out. Demotion/Layoff/Total Job Loss - the guy that tried to squeeze a few bucks out.
It's a pathetic attempt. Even if he got the money, it's still paltry. He didn't even pay for it in the first place.
