Any decades old tradition can have only one source - iSm. Since he's been doing Disney traditions far longer than most of us, this is out of his bag of tricks, and performed only on Disneyland's birthday, I believe...though traditionally it was done if you spent an entire day at the park, all of us closers were allowed to participate.

Crazy thing is, I believe I've done it 4 years in a row now.
