This thread has made me dig up an old cocktail page I made where I came up with a rather delightful cocktail I'm eager to recreate sometime:
Quote:
Here's a drink of my own creation somewhat based upon the Singapore Sling. You can help me pick an appropriate name for this Eastern European version. Some ideas? The Sileasian Sling, the Blitzkrieg, the Eastern Front, the Anschluß, or the Weimar Wunderland. Anyway this is an atractive yet potent drink, as the ginger ale causes the gold leaf of the Goldwasser to effervesce. It's a cocktail that will definitely impress.
2 jiggers gin--preferably Steinhager
1 jigger kirschwaser--I prefer Detlinger or Schladerer
1 jigger goldwasser--this is a unique liquor from Danzig (aka Gdansk-oh those borders!) that contains 18 carret gold leaf in its distillate. An excellent apéritif on it's own, this is the only cocktail I would mix it with.
ginger ale--of course ginger beer is better, but so much harder to find
Over 1 lump of ice, pour the gin, kirschwasser, and goldwasser into a chilled 10oz glass, the more attractive the stemware the better-my personnal preferance is St. Louis Apollo Gold, but at $220 a stem I'll let you skimp here. Fill the rest of the glass with the ginger ale, and admire your gilded cocktail.
