Good points above, Ally. I think there's a fine line between exchanging our opinions and reasons for having them -and- justifying our opinions and defending them with defensiveness.
I think the exchange of our thought process behind opinions is interesting and lets us get to know each other better.
The defensiveness is, alas, a human reaction ... and perhaps I'm guilty as any in seeming somehow to challenge the reasonableness of opinions which differ from my own. I hope we (me included) can keep that kind of thing to a minimum ... but it's only human for it to creep up on us once in a while.
