Birth of the Cool: California Art, Design, and Culture at Midcenturyis one of the most ambitious exhibitions ever organized on this seminal period, encompassing the painting, architecture, furniture design, decorative and graphic arts, film, and music that launched midcentury modernism in the United States and established Los Angeles as a major American cultural center. The influence of these modernist practices on contemporary art and culture has been widespread, and today the styles associated with this period have become shorthand for beauty, sophistication, and confident urbanity.

This year's Art and Architecture tour--supporting education programs at the museum--features remarkable homes designed by award-winning architects and designers. The homes selected for this year's event showcase stunning examples of contemporary design and unique collections of contemporary art.

Following the self-guided tour, participants are invited back to the museum for a 1950's theme party with music, cocktails, and hors d'oeuvres. The event will include an auction with many exciting items as well as a surprise raffle package.

We will be out of town, but that sounds like good times to me.
