It is getting challenging. We had to special order our Minivan (yes, I drive a minivan) to get one
without a DVD player in the back. We also do not allow ipods and other electronic gear to be used in the car. Short drives, cross country drives it makes no difference. Personally I think it's important driver training to get the kids used to paying attention to what's around them while riding in a car.
