You mean this happens everywhere over here? It's not some sort of weird backwoods blue law issue?
I suspect that the deserted streets contributed to the somewhat negative impression I got driving through this afternoon. I'm trying to keep an open mind for tomorrow - perhaps with some activity in the old downtown core it will look more "aged" and less "dilapidated."
After all, it's a great opportunity and it's only for a year. And people do live here voluntarily, so there are presumably some redeeming qualities.
And the park really was sort of spectacular. "Park" doesn't even describe it. I could totally imagine a swanky gathering involving renting a cluster of cabins and spending our days paddle boating, swimming, hiking the hills (some amazing views), touring the glass museum, watching the deer meander by totally unconcerned...
And now I think I'll take a rinse off to get rid of the travel crud, take a double dose of benedryl, and head to bed. Big day tomorrow!
