Like most kids, in the '70s, I was a fan. I had the comic book, had his toy motorcycle (rev it up yourself!) and even was thrilled to see him drive by in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.

Not long after, I heard that he was a racist and anti-semitic. Disgusted, I decided to use my third floor bedroom window as a launching pad for his motorcycle jumps.

About a year ago, I hit the web to see if I could find any evidence that he was the nasty racist that I had heard he was, and turned up nothing. I wonder how I heard those stories...

The story about his death have stirred up those feelings of confusion in me. Were the rumors true? Then good riddance, creep. Were they just rumors? Then farewell, daredevil...
