Actually, GD's family has a tradition of a large family dinner on Xmas Day, including grab bag gift exchange and celebration of the many (7, I believe) family birthdays in December. Since we were going to be in the neighborhood, we visited my family for lunch. This is part of the reason why I have no problem saying "Merry Christmas" to library patrons and having people respond in kind - I do have a merry Christmas.
Scaeagles, I can relate. We got on the topic of funding being cut for music in schools, and my father began ranting about how high school bands are playing mariachi music now, signifying the end of American culture.

Thankfully it was about time for us to leave, and we did so, abruptly.
Other than that it was nice seeing everyone and stuffing ourselves with good food.
