I know, sometimes it's hard to see one's own life on the big screen.
My "Rent" experience was seeing "A Chorus Line" for the first time around 1976. The monologue from the dancer who's parents didn't know he was gay just knocked me over. A couple of years later, it was the movie, "Fame." 10 years later, when the shock of AIDS started turning to anger, we started saying things like, "Fvck you if you don't like the fact that I'm gay. My friends are dying and I've got better things to worry about."
Here we are now. People are still dying of AIDS, though not without a much longer lifespan through various drug treatments. People are still dying of all the things they died of before, drug addiction, suicide, car wrecks, and occasionally, blessedly, plain-old old age. I love my friends, I love you guys, I love my life.
