Whoops! I also meant to add how there's something about him that reminded me of Dexter. He doesn't particularly look like Dex did, but there's something very loving in his eyes - I've noticed that at some point, I started calling him Pooks.
He seems to be responding to it, too, even though he's been called Markus for well over a year now.
