Late to the party, yet again! But at least I have a good excuse (since I WAS at the party!)

King cake is more bready than cakey, and the baby isn't actually baked into the cake any more, since it's plastic and that wouldn't do well in an oven. A lot of the stores anymore don't even put it in the cake, 'choking hazard/nonedible/suit happy world BS reasons'

After 3 years at St. Charles and Jackson (as far away from the Quarter that you can catch Zulu on St. Charles) , then walking up St. Charles Avenue to my friends house, I'm thinking it might be time for a change of venue next year. Maybe even venturing into the Quarter for the morning and seeing some better costumes. I do have to say I think I had one of the better ones where we were. I was a crane, because we need more (construction) cranes on the skyline, but I was a 'whopping crane' (though not ornithologically correct!) and had a sign on my back "Where are the Cranes, Mr. Blakely" (Ed Blakely being the 'rebuilding czar' who promised cranes on the skyline). The President of the City Council was riding in Zulu ended up stopping RIGHT in front of me, and he 'got it' almost immediately, which made me happy.

But it was a flipping hot costume - and I could have been in shorts and a Tshirt and been ok, so it was a fairly warm day for early February. And I"m too old for pulling all nighters like I had to to get it finished. But my "inner Martha" would NOT shut up!
