The bathroom sharing is the only thing that would get me. I hardly need a TV in a hotel room. Sleeping on a tatami mat would be like the Romans, and fine by me.
On the other hand, and while I think it would be swell for us all to stay in the same place, and double swell to not spend the maximum amount of money possible on this trip .... I wouldn't mind exploring some more upscale accomodations.
It's likely going to be my only trip to Nippon, so I don't exactly feel like scrimping.
