Agreed. The carbonized bamboo, while a pretty color, is right out.
However the strand-woven varitety might do well:

But it probably loses some of the beauty.
Then again, given my apparent proclivity for clumsiness, the somewhat softer flooring might be just the ticket...
On a side note:
I went to have a look at the room today. I'd not been down there in months. The cats on the other hand appear to have been down there on a fairly regular basis. Blech! Bad Kitties! No matter what I decided to go with flooring wise, the carpet that is there now HAS GOT TO GO!
