There is a huge difference: mental/emotional pain is not terminal. At
worst, one can be lobotomized, but the majority of mental and emotional afflictions can be dealt with through drugs and/or therapy.
As one who will probably be on medication for the rest of my life for depression, I do not see a parallel between a painful terminal illness and spirit killing emotional pain.
