I hate bed shopping, it brings the worst of overseas shopping to our hallowed shores. Since I'm strongly anti-haggling this is how we did it.

"Lani, do you know where is a bed store? We should probably finally get a bed."

"I think there's one out by the mall."

<drive to mall, stumble across bed store, walk into store>

<to sales clerk> "What's the firmest bed you have?"

<clerk> "This one, but you don't want a really firm bed."

<us> "We'll take it."

We left happy for not having haggled. And he left happy for having found rubes that paid list price. I think we came out ahead in the deal.

I know there are some Web sites out there (or there were 5 years ago) that link up all the major models with their model names at the different stores (they all sell the same beds they just call them different things) so that you can find one you like and then comparison shop easily. A quick search isn't finding them, but you might poke around the interwebs.
