I don't find the service in the original post all that odd. I find the religious beliefs behind it odd, but no odder than any of the other religious beliefs people hold.

And the people on this board are for the most part very quick to talk about how open minded and accepting they are of religious diversity so long as it is within the relatively narrow confines of what they already agree with.

And you are very quick to take offense whenever it happens.

And I think that all of you non-atheists are, in a very fundamental way, insane, ignorant, or otherwise brain damaged. But that doesn't mean you aren't nice people.

And back on the OP topic, I don't find the theology odd or amusing. I do find the potential for scamming and abuse (as mentioned in my first post) to be interesting and, yes, amusing.
