OMG, yes! I grew up there! Born and raised in Richland! (With Kennewick and the aforementioned Pasco, one of the Tri-Cities) 20 below in the winter, 115 in the summer. Sand, sagebrush and Russian olive trees. Lizards, snakes and black widow spiders. Average annual rainfall 7 inches.
Lots of time spent on horseback and on the river. The big annual event is still the unlimited hydroplane race in July.
Richland is the original nuclear boom town. Population went from 420 to 12,000 overnight as the Manhatten Project took over to build Hanford and produce plutonium. Material from Hanford was at the core of the bomb dropped on Nagasaki. For forty years, the major industry was power and plutonium. Now it's cleanup.
The Richland High School mascot is the Bombers. Our symbol is a mushroom cloud.
