Stoat's previously mentioned Davies book, The Times We Had was based on tapes of interviews Davies gave in her home, much of it while in her cups. If you want to read an excellent, and I do mean
excellent bio of Davies, Fred Lawrence Guiles' 1972 volume is one to read.

As much as I enjoy Citizen Kane (which started this derail) Davies was ill served by the film and the lore of the film. Welles later stated that Susan Alexander was not based on Davies, but that is not how Davies has been remembered generally. Pity, she was a fine comedienne and a decent dramatic actress. Happily, those opinions seem to be changing with a few films being shown in regular rotation and a
good documentary, too. <end derail rant>
