Sage is good for banishing, as is lavender. You can write down what you're banishing on a piece of paper and burn it in the bowl you're using for the incense (charcoal in the bowl, put incense on charcoal; the stuff generally doesn't burn well on its own). Waning moon is a good time to do banishing/purging work.

This kind of work is all about focus. Focus on what you want to get rid of. Put it into the paper that you're writing on. Then burn it. Feel the weight lift from your heart. Bury the ashes in the earth (maybe away from the house) or into running water.

Another tactic is to use a piece of string. Put something that is symbolically you on one end and something that is him on the other. Cut the string and feel him disconnected from you.

When the new moon comes in the western sky, fill your house with something that smells good- lemon, or flowers, or whatever. "See" and feel your house fill with the love you *have*.

What kind of thing do you want this to be? Most of this stuff is basically guidelines, and you go by feel.

I don't think you sound like an idiot.
