Balboa park rocks! If your son is into space or planes the Air & Space museum is not to be missed. If you have AAA most of the places have discounts.

There is also a very nice outdoor shopping mall called Fashion Valley located off the 163 and Friars Rd.

And in Vegas, if you have the time, the Shark Experience at Mandalay Bay is amazing.

The most important thing is to be comfortable in what you're wearing. If you're not comfortable in frilly girlie outfits it'll show through. And in Vegas you'll see everything from frumpy to exotic.
