Julie Andrews sang tonight
My heart ached for her when I realized how toasted her pipes really are (I couldn't imagine the loss would be so great). But she's still Julie FREAKING Andrews, with more class, grace, and stage presence than any one person should have a right to.
There were some good singers with her, including a name I'd heard before (I believe he does the Hollywood Bowl thing with reasonable frequency) but never seen myself: Jubilant Sykes. Very good. And the other two guys were pretty damn hot (and so very obviously off the market to my half of the population
) The women were adequate. They were good, just didn't exactly blow you away. The going theory is that they couldn't outshine Julie... that would be bad.
