Scrooge- feel better soon! That sounds painful but I'm glad your doc says you're healing.

Kids walking to school- good idea. I think too many parents are too paranoid, but the first time *anything* bad happens, everybody's going to absolutely scream, so adult supervision is probably a reasonable precaution on the part of the school.

Crossing guards are only nominally for the kids- sure it means they do get across safely, but especially close to the school, it's in large part so traffic will actually flow. Without some control, intersections can bottleneck. A couple of kids start to cross, the cars stop, since the cars are stopped, a few more kids cross...

So I guess I support either crossing guards or adult supervision while walking to school. Maybe not both together, but I can see both being useful.
