I think the straight wedding was portrayed to show all the roadblocks that people who are gay are facing. The woman was stopped every step of the way and he was restrained at the end - giving the message what if
you had to face all these roadblocks only to be told sorry, you can't get married at the end of the line.
While I have no statistics, I think the hetero population is larger than the homo population in CA and they need to appeal to the hetero population to do what is right and shoot down the prop.
